Current employment and regular appointment to Civil Engineer within the City of Los Angeles.
Registration as a Professional Engineer in civil engineering with the California Board of Professional Engineers, Land Surveyors, and Geologists is required.

Summary of Duties
The Civil Engineer vacancy in the Wastewater Conveyance Construction (WCC) division oversees the Emergency Sewer Repair (ESR) group. The ESR group responds 24/7 to emergency and urgent events related to sewer infrastructure throughout all of Los Angeles. The group includes on-call Engineering Associates, Consultants, and Administrative staff. The incumbent is the groups lead construction manager responsible for directing and coordinating the activities of the group. The duties include preparation of the 24/7 on-call schedule, assigning projects, approving construction orders, submittals, RFI’s, change order negotiations, and invoices. Monthly Reports to management and coordination with Board of Public Works Commissioners for budget authority is also required. The incumbent monitors project construction status’ and supports staff by providing training and assisting in analyzing project issues to identify the most cost-effective repair solutions that are least impactful to the community.

Excellent skills in preparing technical correspondences.
Good skills in optimizing systems and procedures.
Ability to monitor multiple active project status’ and budgets concurrently.
Good working knowledge of the preparation of construction documents.
Good working knowledge of preparation of Board Reports for awarding projects and requesting budget authority increases.
Good working knowledge of sewer construction methods and materials, and construction management.
Knowledge of the City’s Equal Employment Opportunity Policies and the supervisor’s responsibilities under these policies.
Ability to coordinate work with other offices, bureaus, outside agencies, residents, contractors, and consultants.
Ability to deliver a quality project on time and on budget, staying within the parameters of the original project scope.
Very good ability to analyze complex issues, identify relevant issues and formulate responsible conclusions or effective solutions.
