The Information Technology Agency (ITA) intends to fill an Information Systems Operations Manager (ISOM) in the Citywide Help Desk (CHD) division. The reporting location of this position is City Hall East (200 Main Street, Los Angeles, CA).   

 EMERGENCY APPOINTMENT

The Rules of the Board of Civil Service Commissioners defines an emergency appointment as a temporary assignment to a position made in accordance with City Charter Section 1013 (a) and (b).  The appointment is authorized until a civil service eligible list is established for that particular job classification, but for no longer than one year.   The appointment must be terminated when a regular appointment can be made from the eligible list to a permanent position of half time or more.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The individual selected for this position will be assigned to the graveyard shift (10:30 PM to 7:00 AM) of ITA’s CHD and be responsible for all day-to-day operations of the shift. The individual will direct and coordinate a group of technical staff in help desk and data center operations, production control, analysis and triage, documentation, etc. This position also requires close coordination with CHD day and swing shifts, an ability to communicate with technical staff and non-technical staff, and may require overtime as needed.

Duties include but are not limited to:

     -Manage and direct the daily operations of staff in providing first level technical support to ITA and all City departments, computer-related hardware and software support, application system monitoring and support, outage notifications, and emergency support.

      -Plan and coordinate scheduling of staff to ensure 24/7 coverage of the call center, facilities, and the monitoring of critical Citywide infrastructure.

      -Supervise and assist staff in monitoring systems and resolving incidents and outages assigned to ITA across all City departments.

      -Coordinating problem resolution with customers and IT staff, documenting and escalating issues to 2nd and 3rd level ITA support teams.

      -Plan and coordinate technology implementation projects, large-scale technology roll-outs, change advisory meetings and approvals, and technology assessments and evaluations.

      -Prepare reports and department statistics at the request of management or other ITA support areas.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

Two years of full-time paid experience as a Senior Computer Operator or Senior Data Processing Technician; or in a class at that level in the City of Los Angeles with supervisory responsibility for a group of employees involved in data processing operations, data production control, documentation, production systems support, computer operations automation support or operation of legacy and distributed server environments.
