EMD strives to make Los Angeles (LA) the most prepared and resilient city in America. The Department coordinates and oversees emergency management activities to increase the preparedness of all Angelenos and enhance the City’s collective ability to plan for, mitigate, respond to and recover from natural and manmade disasters.

NOTE: In order to transition to a Regular EMC I appointment, individuals appointed on an Emergency basis must successfully complete the requisite application and examination process within the first year of the Emergency appointment.
