The Position

·         Perform tasks under the industrial and construction stormwater pollution prevention programs (SWPPPs) and requirements of the Low Impact Development (LID) Program. Tasks may include field response to hazardous materials spills, inspections, comprehensive facility observations, updating SWPPPs, routine sampling and monitoring, preparing training materials, field training of Los Angeles World Airport's (LAWA's) Pollution Prevention Team members, outreach and implementation of Level 1 and Level 2 Exceedance Response Actions solutions, updating the Best Management Practice (BMP) maintenance manual and implementing LAWA's spill response reporting program to comply with stormwater regulations. Specific to the LID program, tasks included review of projects and preparation of Letters of Agreement.

·         Using the Microsoft Office Suite, the Specialist III will write and/or review staff reports, e-mails, briefings, standard operating procedures, work instructions, presentations and training materials/guidance documents, and permits. The Specialist III will communicate with various resource agencies or organizations, attend meetings, ensure stormwater data are maintained in a library of related information, and perform research as needed.

·         The Environmental Specialist III will be the subject matter expert for stormwater compliance and may coordinate and participate in agency audits, regulatory inspections or agency spill response, may provide support to Supervisory personnel on permit negotiations and applications, and is expected to have a high level of understanding of stormwater regulatory requirements and standard practices.

·         Verify data entry and ensure data are entered into databases (for example: Enviance, California Storm Water Multiple Application and Report Tracking, and spills database) and tracks water quality according to SWPPP.

·         Aids with other environmental regulatory duties as needed (for example, conducting inspections of air quality equipment to comply with Title V permit requirements, overseeing mulching operations in Palmdale, or assisting with LAWA’s Safe Drinking Water Program)
