The Public Information Director I (PID) for the Department of Cultural Affairs (DCA) will coordinate and address all external and internal communication needs of the Department such as: responding to media inquiries; drafting Department press releases; and coordinating external and internal communications. The PID will interact with DCA’s partners and serve as the Department’s primary liaison with the Mayor and City Council Communications Teams to ensure prompt and appropriate responses to media inquiries and ensure appropriate messaging.
The PID will plan, develop, and administer a comprehensive media relations, communications, and information strategy; assist and serve the community through outreach efforts to disseminate information on DCA services, programming, and events; apply sound supervisory principles and techniques in building and maintaining an effective work force; advise management of the potential public relations effects of proposed actions; and fulfill equal employment opportunity responsibilities.
The PID will work directly with DCA’s General Manager, Assistant General Manager, and Director of Marketing, Development, and Design Strategy to create strategic communications, advise on policy communications, and establish operations to promote the transparency and accessibility of Department with reports and data provided to the media and the general public.
The PID will provide expertise to staff in external, media, and public relations; guidance in creating collateral materials, and recommendations for intergovernmental relations. The PID will enhance media and public outreach efforts by assisting the Marketing, Development, Design, and Digital Research Division with producing the Department’s annual report, newsletters, brochures, videos, presentations, web content, and other reports as necessary, assuring that all Department materials are made available to the public. The PID will assist DCA’s digital team with enhancing DCA’s web presence and activating DCA’s social media channels. The PID will handle all public information requests and provide information to elected officials in a timely manner.
The PID will also be responsible for public relations and spokesperson training to Department staff to promote an understanding of DCA’s services and accomplishments by the media through various modes of communication.
