The Occupational Safety and Health Division are divided into three separate operations, Safety Engineering, Industrial Hygiene, and Ergonomic Evaluation. Our mission is to provide assistance to all City departments in resolving their safety and health issues.
Safety Engineering Staff
The primary responsibilities of our safety associates are to assist City departments in establishing and administering their own safety and health programs. Our staff serves as consultants, which make recommendations to control factors affecting employee safety, which includes compliance with current Cal/OSHA regulations
Industrial Hygiene Staff
Industrial Hygienist develops, coordinates, and implements programs to reduce exposure to hazardous situations in the workplace. The Hygiene staff is responsible to investigate, evaluate and make recommendations regarding environmental hazards affecting employee's health such as air contamination, noise, lead and asbestos exposure.
Ergonomics Evaluation
Ergonomics is the science of fitting worksites to people. It focuses on designing workstations, tools and task with an eye toward safety, efficiency and comfort. Effective ergonomic design reduces workplace injuries and increases job satisfaction and productivity.
